Reflection: Blog 7

9.3.1 Reflection: How have the landforms of Africa encouraged movement of people and goods? How have they discouraged movement?

  1. Landforms such as rivers have encouraged movement because a waterway provides quick, easy transport for people and trade up and down one. Egypt's culture spread up and down the Nile River. The people of Axum traded across oceans and the Red Sea. Many early Africans traveled across plateaus to other lands, followed by merchants. The Sahara desert was moved across by caravans of traders. This vast desert was a considerable obstacle to exploring Europeans, however. Explorers who came by sea were also dismayed by the many waterfalls and rapids caused by the elevation changes between plateaus and the coast.

  2. Landforms of africa have encouraged trade in multiple ways. One way is the rivers. The Nile has allowed trade to expand because of it's length running throughout a large part of the continent. The water let traders access opposing sides of the river, allowing them to trade their products easily. Although, the Europeans were unable to reach cantral Africa due to rapid water in the Congo river.

  4. Landforms such as rivers and seas encouraged movement of people and goods because it was a good source of transportation that ran all along the continent. Landforms such as deserts and mountains discouraged trade because it made it difficult to travel through the boiling sun or navigate around the mountains.

  5. Landforms that encouraged movement of people and goods were the rivers because most of the rivers led straight to the oceans/seas making for easy trade. Mountains and deserts discouraged movement because they were difficult to navigate in the rough terrain, hot sun, and sandstorms/sand blowing everywhere.

  6. Africa is located near the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea as well these are major trade factors that encouraged the movement of people and goods. The deserts made it harder for the people and goods to move because of the sand and hot sun. Another reason for the movement of people and goods to be discouraged was the mountains. They were hard to get through and and navigate.

  7. Africa is near many major landforms that allow easy access to other countries. These landforms include the Red Sea, Meditteranean Sea, and Nile River. This made it easy to travel and to trade. on the other hand, deserts don't allow easy access to many areas, which is a huge set back. The deserts have barely any rain, hot sun, sandstorms and it is extremely difficult to find you way to and from your destination.

  9. movement of people and goods in africa can be encouraged because of the easy transportation created by its landforms. rivers and oceans provide a smooth obstacle free path. however mountains can cause trouble in the trading world since they are difficult to climb with supplies.

  12. They encourage movement of people because there are rivers to help them move around and trade. The landforms don't encourage movement because there are lots of mountains and obstacles that you have yo get around to travel.

  13. Some landforms of Africa, such as the rivers and surrounding seas, promote movement of people and goods by allowing Africans access to Europe and different regions of Africa. However, natural barriers such as wide expanses of desert and waterfalls pose death-threatening obstacles, making it difficult to travel and trade across certain areas.

  15. Landforms in Africa like rivers make it easy to trade and move from place to place. But when something like a mountain comes it takes longer to pass through.

  16. Africa is located nearby two major landforms, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, which encouraged the movement of people and goods. The deserts made it more difficult for the movement of people and goods due to the heat of the sun . Another reason why the movement of people and goods were discouraged: the mountains. They were hard to pass, and getting lost was very common trying to find your way past these massive landforms.

  27. Landforms can encourage the movement of people and goods for several reasons. One of those reasons is that rivers can encourage the movement of people and goods because it offers easy transportation and fresh water. But landforms can also cause people to be discouraged to move because of rugged terrain or rough obstacles.
